Welcome to the Career Transitions network.

As I began coaching people in career transition, I noticed immediately that there were no places to congregate, to talk, to share ideas about this challenge. It seemed that websites, networking groups and events were mostly geared to those who were clear on what they were trying to do - making connections, selling themselves or their services, handing out their cards with verve and purpose. And when I attended these events, I never heard anyone say to me, "you know, I'm not sure what I want to do anymore. I used to know, but I no longer feel excited about my job." I would bet some people were thinking it, but no one was willing to speak it. What I have discovered is that people who successfully change their careers start with a feeling. That feeling is small and unclear. And many do not speak that feeling out loud for a long time. Because it can be a scary and alone place. With this network, I am providing a place where ideas, resources and experiences can be shared no matter where in this exciting journey you are. Personally, I have come out on the other side with a career I would never have imagined possible five years ago. I know you can have a career that you feel passionate about if you are willing to do the work. I look forward to hearing from anyone who would like to share here. Please do not feel that you need to be offering great wisdom in order to submit a contribution to the message board. Share your experiences in an authentic way. Someone out there may be inspired by your story. This hopefully will be a conversation. Even if you have yet to speak the feeling of the yearning for a rewarding career, do it here, do it now. Begin the journey. There are a number of truths that I have noticed in working with people in career transition:

1. The journey is never a straight line. I will be saying more about this in the future, but get ready for a journey in the most unpredictable sense of the word.

2. It will require hard work. There will be an "aha" moment, but it will come after rigorous effort and when you least expect it.

3. You will need to be completely honest with yourself. For some people this is the most difficult part.

4. You will feel like giving up at times. You will feel like settling. You can quit at that time, or you can chose to move forward.

5. The journey is always rewarding. Welcome to your first step.

Jeffrey
